Reproductive biology of the yellow snapper , Lutjanus argentiventris ( Pisces , Lutjanidae ) , from the Mexican central Pacific
The yellow snapper, Lutjanus argentiventris, is a commercial species along the Pacific coast, yet few studies have been carried out on its reproductive biology. Monthly samplings of the artisanal fishery off the coast of Jalisco, Mexico, were made from 1998 to 2008. Mean total length and weight of analyzed specimens were 32.6 cm (±0.13) and 567.3 g (±9.15), respectively. A total of 945 females ...
متن کاملA new genus and species of cryptogonimid from Lutjanus spp. (Pisces: Lutjanidae) on the Great Barrier Reef and New Caledonia.
Lobosorchis tibaldiae n. gen. and n. sp. (Digenea: Cryptogonimidae) is described from the intestine, pyloric ceca, and rectum of 2 species of Lutjanus (Pisces: Lutjanidae), Lutjanus carponotatus and Lutjanus fulviflamma, from the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia, and New Caledonia. The genus is tentatively placed in the Neochasminae and is distinguished within the Cryptogonimidae by th...
متن کاملMorphology and morphometric relationships of the sagitta of Diapterus auratus (Perciformes: Gerreidae) from Veracruz, Mexico.
Sagittae otoliths are the most studied because of their morphological variability and size; the sagittae may also have valuable taxonomic use and for D. auratus has not yet been described. In the present study we present a morphological description of the sagitta otolith and an analysis of its correlation with various morphometric parameters. The biological material was captured with a beach se...
متن کاملBiogeographic patterns in the cartilaginous fauna (Pisces: Elasmobranchii and Holocephali) in the southeast Pacific Ocean
The abundance and species richness of the cartilaginous fish community of the continental shelf and slope off central Chile is described, based on fishery-independent trawl tows made in 2006 and 2007. A total of 194,705 specimens comprising 20 species (9 sharks, 10 skates, 1 chimaera) were caught at depths of 100-500 m along a 1,000 km transect between 29.5°S and 39°S. Sample site locations wer...
متن کاملDescription of a new species of Microstoma (Pisces, Microstomatidae) from the southwestern Pacific Ocean.
A new species of the microstomatid genus Microstoma is described from specimens collected in the SW Pacific Ocean off New Zealand and Australia. Microstoma australis n. sp. differs from M. microsotma of the Mediterranean and Atlantic Ocean in having a higher number of gill rakers and vertebrae. Both species are compared with available data for NE Pacific specimens.
